Carousel: The Guide to Children's books - latest news

Malorie Blackman wins the Eleanor Farjeon Award 2005.
This award recognises an outstanding contribution to children's literature. Nominations and votes for the Award are from members of the Children's Book Circle. Earlier this year Malorie Blackman became the first Black British writer to have sold one million books. She has written extensively for both younger readers and young adults and a number of her books have been dramatised for television. Pig Heart Boy (BBC) was awarded a BAFTA for Best Children's Drama. Her novels have won numerous awards.
The Eleanor Farjeon Award has been running for 39 years and has been presented to many eminent people. The 2005 Award is generously sponsored by the Eleanor Farjeon Estate. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Children's Book Circle please email childrensbookcircle@hotmail.co.uk

BLUE PETER 2005 AWARDS
The 9 Blue Peter Young Judges met on board the London Eye and over the course of a single day discussed the short list and came up with the winners. The short lists was selected by Simon Bartram and Eleanor Updale with the Blue Peter editor Richard Marson and Blue Peter presenters Liz Barker and Gethin Jones.
The Book I couldn't put down: Private Peaceful, Michael Morpurgo,Collins Childrens Books
The Best book with facts: Explorers Wanted at the North Pole, Simon Chapman, Egmont
The Best illustrated book to read aloud: The Snail and the Whale, Julia Donaldson/Axel Scheffler, Macmillan Children's Books
and the over winner of The Blue Peter Book of the Year 2005 - Private Peaceful.

SHORTLISTSFOR THE CALDERDALE CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE YEAR 2006
